Love this show. This '82 summer was smoking. The main thing that stands out for me is the tempo. The boys were on warp speed and I can't get enough!

I'm not usually partial to 80s shows, but obviously there are quite a lot of gems that one should not miss and this show is definitely worth a listen. If you only have a little time, the Lost Sailor>Saint>Eyes is not-miss territory.

I went to the Greek Theater in May, then Alpine right before this show. I was lucky boy! 6 shows in '82.
Others I know went to Red Rocks and such, but I "had to work". No big dealio. None of them saw the Austin show that the tour heads were all saying was the best of the summer tour.
Anyways, I was not planning on the Iowa City show. Way out in the middle of nowhere. But, I had a car, and got a call from some friends saying they needed a ride and they had hotel and tix for me. Work was going to wait.
I got to say the lot scene was like a sleeper zone. The huge rectangular cavern venue was not some beautiful place. I'd never been inside a field house before. Security was petty much none existent. So, we walked up to the front where I always was at the 101 GD shows I attended. Other places it was a major achievement to get up there. Not at the Fieldhouse.
They started out strong with Stranger. They didn't let up. Had some kind of Bobby is having a sound problem thingy. Well, that was what we thought. We tried screwing our heads back on in those few minutes, and then they loaded the canon again. Holy cow! The rest of the set was really fun! I mean we were on fire after it.
We were taken care of properly in the lot ahead of time. I don't have memories of the set break. Thank god they opened the 2nd set with Cinacat/Rider. This was my 3rd 2nd set opener with this that year. I was not let down. not at all. Then the Lost/Saint/Eyes thing shot me way out there. I had a hard time finding a purchase to hold onto during the Space that got a bit melty. Then Iko became my purchase. And Truckin thru the end was, can I pun, Stellar! And doing the Around tease was just so fun to see it getting nixed! I didn't need to see three Around N Around in 6 shows.
Phil came out and asked for a better place for them to play in, and they thanked the heads for a successful tour with a double encore! I saw three double encores that year. This time they didn't do Satisfaction.
Outside after the show the Heads were selling their leftover sheets for 40. So they could have some money to get home with. 1982 was a good year to see the boys. They were playing well.
Thank you CM for what you do to make us kids happy. 5 stars because of the recording and the most bountiful playing by the band and of course the Dead heads that make it all possible. The brief sound corrections in the firsts et was not much to mention. It was just a funny moment along the way, and I learned a new phrase "hoist by your own petard". If that is how it is spelled?

There aren't enough stars in the universe to rate this superlative show. Listen to the Eyes if you only have time for one song.

This was the last of the mid-west shows for many of us...the next show was far far west, Washington state.
This show was a gift and a good-bye to so many of us who had spent so much time sharing the music.
